I first came to yoga in high school in 2007, practicing sporadically and stepping into studios where I was often the only person of color in the room - feeling out of place and never fully connected. It wasn’t until 2020 that I deepened my practice to reconnect with my body and reclaim agency in my healing journey. In the wake of personal trauma and the stillness of the pandemic, yoga became more than movement - it became a practice of resilience, restoration, and self-trust. In Brooklyn, I found studios with greater diversity and solace in collective breathwork and community, discovering a sense of belonging I hadn’t felt before. Through breath and mindful movement, I found a path back to myself, regaining strength, autonomy, and a more loving relationship with myself than ever before.
I completed my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training at Arise Yoga in 2024 (lead by Tonie Warner and Quamay Sams) and became certified in trauma-informed yoga through Exhale to Inhale in 2025. I believe yoga should be accessible, inclusive, and adaptable to individual needs. Whether in classes, private sessions, or immersive retreats, I create spaces where students feel grounded, supported, and empowered in their own practice.
When I’m not teaching, I’m a filmmaker and producer drawn to storytelling that uplifts underrepresented voices. I find joy in cycling, hiking, surfing, snapping photos of my pals and wandering the streets of New York City - drawn to the rhythms of movement, storytelling, and connection that shape both my practice and the spaces I create for others.
I’m Adelia Shiffraw (she/her), a yoga teacher committed to fostering spaces that encourage self-awareness, community, and collective liberation.
As a first-generation Ethiopian-Swedish American, I’ve always felt at home in movement - whether traveling across landscapes, navigating different cultures, or deepening my connection to my own body.
